I am now nearly recovered from whatever illness it was that struck me. Although it can be nice to be able to have prescriptions called in without going to a doctor, it often prevents me from finding out exactly what I am afflicted by. I don't think I was as bothered about being ill as I was about being unable to phone Missy. Ironically, my physical illness may have led to increased emotional health. Having reduced contact with those people in my life that matter most led me to engulf myself in the things I most love. This led me to realize what I value most. For instance, a spent a good portion of one day reading love letters. I then reflected on the ones I had and had not written. Possibly more importantly, why had I written or not written my feelings for certain people. Why was I more comfortable talking to my favourite musician than the girl I sat next to for an entire volleyball season? At first, there may seem to be a simple answer. However, I think there is something more complex to it. Well, I've been off work for almost 2 hours and must be back in less than six. I best be going. Despite the infrequency of my posts, I do deeply value the small connections I have made with you all Here is a little something I picked up a few days ago and forgot to post before: | bdtiscool's LJ stalker is allweknow! | | allweknow is stalking you because they have you confused with someone else whom they love. Subject? Toughest question I've faced in weeks.
The wait is over. You are the Quarry came out yesterday and I picked it up early in the day. Since I also had a $750 paycheque go through last week and another $200 coming in about a week, I figured I could afford to pick up some other stuff too. I got four Death Cab For Cutie albums, Good News for People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse and of course, You are the Quarry CD & DVD. Surprisingly, the one I've listened to least is You are the Quarry. Good News for People Who Love Bad News is a solid album. Modest Mouse has reached a new level with this album. Until this point, Modest Mouse was a very good band with a very respectably sized fan base. Somehow they surpassed themselves with GNFPWLBN. This album makes me question the new policy we have at the video store. We can no longer play any movies that aren't rated G. So, we can't play a film like In America. We have been able to play GNFPWLBN. Not able to play a beautiful oscar-nominated film, but we can play an album including the lyrics "And we're done, done, done with all the fuck, fuck, fuckin' around."? Seems odd. I won't complain, I want to make sure we can still listen to music. Even worse, since the end of the first round of the NHL playoffs, we haven't been allowed to play the games on any TVs or radios in store. The District Manager even comes by to check. This whole town is hockey-crazy right now. We are located near to a bar. Everytime the Flames score, people run through our store with flags. How can a company that claims to be proudly Canadian be opposed to hockey. The Flames are in the League finals and we can't even have a radio on to know what the score is! Speaking of people too uptight about hockey, their was an article in the paper today about the negative effects of Calgary having playoff fever. This article claims that excessive drinking leads to women flashing their breasts. So, playoff hockey is bad for feminism. Is Naomi Wolf now ghostwriting for major Canadian news publication? It is the most ridiculous article I've read since I last saw something in favour of George W. Bush. I also got about $300 worth of DVDs. I managed to get a good deal on both the entire series of Freak and Geeks and both seasons of the Office. It's a shame not many people saw Freaks and Geeks. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed show. I was also surprised to find out MusicWorld, a store which I think of as typically overpricing merchandise, was selling the set for $30 less where I work at. Another surprise was seeing the special edition collection of the Sleepaway Camp movies. I quite enjoyed these films, but this set seems overfancy. I am curious as to how serious the commentary tracks are. Does Robert Hiltzik explain how he got the idea for a transgender summer camp serial killer? That would be nuttaz! I had best get back to re-writing the Imfri script. Good Day to Y'all. Current Mood: creativeCurrent Music: Bukowski by Modest Mouse. | | Friday, April 16th, 2004 | | 12:45 pm |
Return from a long absence
I have now finished my classes for this school year. I figure this to be the perfect time to return to writing in my LJ. I have started what appears to be a great two months for me. A slew of exciting local theatre productions have begun. I have been eagerly waiting for Neil Labute's The Shape of Things to open since September. Oddly, as opening night approached, my excitement dwindled. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie and reading the play; I have have come to realise that seeing a bad production of it might dent my love for the play. I guess I simply do not have confidence in Meg Roe's ability to portray Evelyn. Does anyone who reads these entries know who Meg Roe is? I am often curious as to who reads my entries. I know a fair bit about the people in my friends list, but nothing about anyone else who might end up on my page. I am quite involved in activities that go on in Calgary. However, I hesitate to discuss these events in this forum because I doubt they have any importance to non-Calgarians. If people are making their first visit to this page, I encourage them to leave a comment with at least some brief details to indicate who I am writing for. John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men opened yesterday. A co-worker of mine plays Curley's wife. Is it odd that I am excited to see her die? Also opening this week is Citizen Pochsy. It was written by and stars the positively delightful Karen Hines. I have heard wonderful things about it. She tours quite a bit with her shows. I am not sure exactly where she is planning to go, but I strongly encourage you to see it if you get the chance. Hawksley Workman has returned to Canada. The first show of his current tour was here at the University. It was an amazing show. I am hoping to make the hour and a half trip to Banff to see him again this Sunday. The film Bubba Ho-Tep returned to the Uptown theatre on Easter Weekend and is likely to stay a few more weeks. Of all the movies I have been promoting over the lst few months, I think this is my favourite. I found this to really help me. It is so much easier to promote a film I actually enjoy. I am fairly confident in saying this is the best film to be partially filmed in Nagcodoches, TX. This being my first year at University, I have yet to find out why we celebrate the last day of classes with the smell of vomit all around. When I arrived for class at 10 a.m., the washrooms were already full of the excessively drunk. Now is the time for me to start my film essay. I shall try to write more often for those of you who are interested. Chapter 1 CAL 4
Hey all, Just needed a place to type my notes. The computers in this room are devoid of Microsoft Word. First Law of Thermodynamics: 1. Heat is a flow of NRG 2. NRG is conserved. Consequently, if there is a flow of heat during a rxn, the NRG of the reacting substances must change If heat flows in, NRG increases (delta H is +), endothermic. If heat flows out (warms things up), delta H is -, exothermic, energy decreases. In any rxn at constant pressure, the enthalpy change is equal to the heat of rxn enthalpy is extensive (proportional to the amount) 36 g has twice the enthalpy of 18 g. | | Monday, November 24th, 2003 | | 11:37 am |

Got a B on my Film Paper. Not as good as I thought, but hey what am I going to do about it? Went to "Lost in Translation" with my mother tonight. It was great. If it hadn't been for midterms and other things, I would have seen it much sooner. Now I am preparing for Chem Lab, while listening to some music. Bonus marks for anyone who knows what song the lyrics I used as the subject come from. The DVDs I ordered from amazon.ca have been shipped. I ordered them Oct. 29. both were expected to take 3-5 weeks. So, it was a pleasant surprise. Especially since I had been waiting for 6 months for a music store to order one of them in. They eventually gave up. If ignorance is bliss, I must be terribly unenlightened tonight. By the way, the song was No Beginning, No End by Hawksley Workman. First Entry: Now I know how Joan of Arc felt...
I feel like those one of those people that calls in to a radio program and starts by saying, "Hello (host's name), I'm a long time listener, first time caller." I have been led to livejournal many times by search engines. Often someone's journal entry contains the information I need. I did not ever truly browse through any other entries. It was not until earlier this week that I realized what went into some people's entries. I decided to make my own journal, but at the time did not have anything to write. Truthfully, I still don't. The first entry is always the hardest. So, I decided that if I ever want to right anything, I should start now. I made an agreement with myself that I would write down whatever was in my head when I found some time to write. I now have 1/2 an hour until my Chemistry class. All I have in my head is a song. Obviously, this will not be some deep thinking entry. That song is "Bigmouth Strikes Again". A small excerpt: Now I know how Joan of Arc felt As the flames rose to her Roman nose And her Walkman stared to melt Bigmouth, bigmouth Bigmouth strikes again And Ive got no right to take my place With the Human Race I guess this has some importance to me right now. For all you Smiths/Morrissey fans out there, I highly suggest you watch the film "My Life With Morrissey". Speaking of good movies, the process of writing this entry reminds me of a scene from "The Breakfast Club." Brian: "Who am I? Who am I? I feel like I'm dating myself here." I am not sure if that is the exact quote, but it is close enough for now. I suppose that is enough for now. Time to get in line to find out if I passed my Chemistry midterm.
